7 Ways to Use Evergreen Branches in Your Holiday Décor

When you think evergreen trees, does the holiday season come first to mind? It’s common to associate the two, as the smell and look of evergreen have become popular during the holidays. This is why using evergreen branches in your holiday décor is a great idea. It will make your home feel even more festive.

If you have an evergreen tree in your yard, it can save you a little money, as you can simply use these evergreen branches rather than having to go out and spend money on other decorations. Plus, by using real evergreen branches, you’re bringing that natural, beautiful evergreen smell into your home. Not only will your home look straight out of a holiday décor magazine, but it will smell like it too.

How can you go about adding evergreen branches to your holiday décor? Here are seven ways.

  1. Use as Garland

This is one of the most common holiday uses for evergreen branches. Garland is an extremely popular holiday decoration. But rather than buying fake garland, use real evergreen branches from your tree. It will look more authentic and will fill your home with the smell of pine. If you already have artificial garland, you can add evergreen branches to fill out the fake garland. Garland can be strung from just about anywhere in your home, from framing your door to the banister of your staircase to around your windows.

  1. Create Stair Swag Décor

If you don’t want to loop garland around the banister of your staircase, creating stair swag décor is a great idea. All you need to do is bunch of evergreen branches together, use a festive red ribbon to tie them, and add the bunch to your stairs. To make your stair swag décor even more in tune with the holiday season, add some red berries or holly branches to the evergreen ones.

  1. Add to Your Chandelier

Do you have a chandelier in your home? Have you added some festive décor to it yet? It can be decorated too! Drape fresh evergreen branches on your chandelier. Especially if you’re hosting dinner parties during the holiday season, it will make your dining room feel just as festive as the rest of your house and in a very elegant way. Your chandelier will look like it’s floating on a cloud of evergreen.

  1. Distribute Small Branches All-Around

Take some smaller branches, or cut larger evergreen branches and cut them into small sprigs. Place the small pieces around your home, and include places you haven’t decorated yet. Put sprigs around dishes inside your china hutch, on random open shelving displays, in the bathroom, and so on. This will get your entire home looking and smelling like the holidays. If you have any empty vases, goblets, or other glassware, you can add branches to these as well.

  1. Mason Jars

Are you not one for DIY tasks? Well, this idea is for you then. If you’d really like to keep it simple, grab a clear mason jar. Just by adding some evergreen branches to a mason jar, you can have that holiday feel and smell all-around your home. These jars can be placed in any room from your bedroom to your bathroom to the kitchen. You can also add other holiday décor to these mason jars, such as lining the bottom of the jar with berries, fake snow, or pinecones. This may be the quickest and easiest way to utilize evergreen branches in your holiday décor.

  1. Place on Picture Frames

Do you have picture frames all around your home? Try putting evergreen branches above each frame. Most frames have enough space where thin evergreen branches can be laid across the top. Cut the evergreen branches so they hang just a little off of the top of the frame to prevent them from overpowering what’s in the frame. You want the evergreen branches to be a sweet seasonal addition to the frames. If you prefer not to have the branches on top of the frames, cut the branches smaller and have the evergreen peeking out from behind the frames.

  1. Add to Your Chairs

If you’re having a dinner party this holiday season, decorate the chairs that your guests will be sitting in. Especially if you don’t have a chandelier in your dining room, you can still make your dining room feel as festive as the rest of your home. Similar to creating the swag décor for your stairs, tie evergreen branches together with a ribbon and have these on the backs of your chairs. This added detail will surely be noticed by your guests, and it really does help take your room to the next level.
